Nestled in the heart of New York City’s vibrant Tribeca neighborhood, The Odeon stands as an iconic modern French restaurant and bistro redefining classic Parisian dining with a lively New York twist. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere resonates with a charming elegance and an inviting buzz that is at once both sophisticated and comfortably unpretentious—an ideal setting for an intimate date night or a gathering with friends.
The menu is a testament to refined French culinary tradition enlivened by fresh, imaginative flair. Signature dishes like the expertly prepared Steak Tartare offer a perfect balance of rich texture and subtle seasoning, while the Buffalo Chicken Dumplings deliver a memorable fusion of East meets West, wrapped in tender skins and paired impeccably with blue cheese dipping sauce. Seafood lovers will especially appreciate the Half Dozen Island Creek Oysters from Duxbury, Massachusetts, complemented by a bright, crisp mignonette, or the delightful Salmon Tartare enhanced by avocado, radish, and a lively citrus soy vinaigrette.
For those craving hearty comfort, French Onion Soup Gratinée with Gruyère cheese and croutons is a must-try, offering a golden, bubbling top and a deeply savory broth that warms from the first sip. Another crowd-pleaser is the lovingly crafted Cheeseburger with Very Crispy Fries, which many patrons have called “insane” in its delicious old-school style—perfectly crispy on the outside, tender within, and served alongside Odeon’s signature chipotle mayonnaise that adds a smoky kick. Not to be overlooked, the Moules Frites evoke true French bistro authenticity, capturing the rustic charm and depth of flavor one expects from the best coastal seaside eateries.
Beyond the food, The Odeon’s cocktails are equally compelling; the Cucumber Martini provides refreshing crispness ideal for warm summer days, while the Ginger Martini offers a subtly spicy yet smooth contrast. Whether you prefer a classic Bloody Mary or a well-mixed Cosmopolitan, the bar crafts each drink with care and flair.
Customer experiences echo this blend of excellence. Vyacheslav “Slava” D. praised The Odeon for its “charming atmosphere, elegant audience, and attentive staff,” highlighting the peaceful ambiance that defies typical NYC restaurant noise levels. Courtney Major raved about the moules frites, calling it the “best I’ve had since France,” underscoring the authenticity and quality the kitchen achieves. Andrew Hazelrigg’s description of dining here as a “religious experience” captures the enchanting combination of ambiance, service, and food that feels genuinely transcendent. Even in moments of crowding, patrons like Eric Yao find the energy “indescribable” and the unique fusion dishes compelling enough to overlook the bustle.
From breakfast options like creamy, rich French Toast and savory Eggs Benedict variants—smoked salmon or Florentine style—to indulgent desserts such as the velvety Odeon Chocolate Pudding and airy Profiteroles, The Odeon thoughtfully balances traditional French favorites with modern palates in mind.
Whether you are a longtime Francophile or someone simply looking to indulge in well-executed classic bistro fare within an elegant yet welcoming vibe, The Odeon delivers an experience that feels both timeless and distinctly New York. Every bite, every sip, every interaction paints a picture of culinary passion and attentive hospitality that invites return visits again and again.
It was one of the best date dinners ever in NYC! Charming atmosphere, elegant audience, attentive staff, delicious dishes, and surprisingly not as loud as usually in NYC. All these are components of your great time here, and afterwards, you want to visit this restaurant again!! Definitely will come back soon with my friends. PS: Their fries are insane how delicious, old-school style, real potatoes, not a fake!!!
The vibes of this spot were super fun and I loved the menu. Truly, the best moule frites I’ve had since France. The steak from the steak frites was underwhelming though, and the bearnaise sauce wasn’t balanced. Get the cosmo though!
Coming here felt like a religious experience. The ambiance, the service, the food. It all felt out of this world. All of our dishes were great. Perfect execution Benoit
Iconic place with indescribable energy. The cucumber martini was refreshing for early summer days and buffalo dumplings caught us in surprise with its own interpretation of east and west, simply love it. The only complaint I had - too crowded!
Got the salmon tartare and flank frites. Overall we loved the vibe and the service was very good. We also liked the flank frites but I liked the garlic butter more than the au poivre. The fries were perfectly crisp. The salmon tartare was ok, and the sauce honestly didn’t go that well with it.
The Odeon is NYC staple. It never disappoints. It is my go to place not only because it happens to be in my neighborhood, but because you are sure to have a great experience every single time. It is always buzzy but never overly loud or messy. The staff is professional and attentive. Tonight we had the best treatment from Glory who took very good care of us and our holiday dinner on such a busy night. So appreciated!
I always see lots of people going in and out of The Odeon, and since it’s near my new job, we decided to try it out some time ago. The atmosphere could have been better, nothing special, but fine overall. The service was nice; everyone was friendly, polite, and quick. As for the food: the salad was a very small portion and almost empty. The burger had dry bread, but the meat itself was exceptional. The fries were really good, which is actually pretty rare in restaurants. Drinks were average. Overall, I expected more from such a popular place, but it was just fine.
Food was excellent, I had the spinach quiche from the brunch menu. Good selection of wine, cocktails, and mocktails. Very good vibe.
